Spoiler alert. The following paragraphs reveal plot elements from the end of the Young Royals series.
It is one of the highest rated Netflix series by AlloCiné viewers and it has just ended after three seasons. Created by Lisa Ambjörn, Young Royals is a series for young adults that comes to us from Sweden and which quickly won over subscribers with its complex but terribly touching love story.
So how does this teenage romance end?
What is Young Royals?
Young Royals tells the story of Wilhelm (Edvin Ryding), who enters the famous Hillerska boarding school. The latter must complete his education because he became the crown prince to the Swedish throne, following the death of his older brother Erik, whom he admired.
Under pressure to manage his future responsibilities, Wilhelm falls in love with his classmate Simon (Omar Rudberg). They will maintain a secret relationship until another student, who is none other than his cousin August (Malte Gårdinger), reveals their romance.
Poor Wilhelm is therefore subject to royal, media and academic pressure, but will end up coming out and proclaiming his love for Simon. An announcement that will cause a lot of noise within the establishment, but also in the upper royal spheres.

What is the story of Young Royals season 3?
Although accepting of Wilhelm and Simon’s relationship, the court places greater pressure on Wilhelm for his future accession to the throne, which may be precipitated by his mother’s health concerns.
The young prince questions his future when he discovers that his brother Erik was involved in the homophobic hazing rites at the Hillerska Institute, which is facing the worst crisis in its history due to systemic abuse and which risks the closure.
Worse still, his relationship with Simon deteriorates because of his royal responsibilities, and poor Wilhelm doesn’t know what to do to find his balance between his family and his love. What sacrifices is he willing to make in order to live their relationship to the fullest?

How does Young Royals end?
The third and final season of Young Royals was split into two parts, like many Netflix series. The first, of five episodes, ended with the sad breakup of Wilhelm and Simon and subscribers had to wait a week before discovering the second part, consisting of a single episode.
In the final chapter of Young Royals, Wilhelm and Simon suffer from their breakup and have difficulty communicating when they meet in the corridors of Hillerska. And the ax falls for the institute, which will definitely have to close its doors after an internal investigation into hazing and other abusive rites which took place for years.
The students and the teaching staff then decide to organize a farewell party, during which Simon and Wilhelm spend one last moment together until the early morning. The next day, the final year students, including August who sincerely apologized to Wilhelm and managed to make amends, receive their diplomas.

Wilhelm’s parents are present to congratulate August, and Wilhelm realizes that he has power over his destiny. He explains to his parents that he wants to abdicate and that he does not intend to reign. For the young boy, it is better for August to be the crown prince, knowing that that is all he wants and that he will know how to better manage royal responsibilities.
Ultimately, Wilhelm made a choice between the crown and love. And he decided to take his freedom and find Simon to declare his love for him. Young Royals ends with Wilhelm and Simon driving off to their new life, far from the monarchy.
