A bug, now identified by Apple, prevents alarms from working properly on iPhone. The company is working on a fix.

These are the kind of discoveries that are never pleasant. On social media, many iPhone users have complained that their phones no longer ring in the morning to wake them up. A recent problem seems to cause the alarms to fail in certain cases. After remaining silent on the subject, Apple confirmed the existence of this problem and promised a quick fix.

How to fix the bug?

If the company has not been particularly verbose on the subject and on the causes of the bug, several Internet users seem to have targeted the culprit: the functions based on attention. Within the iPhone settings there is a small feature that allows you to “rReduce screen brightness or lower alert volume » if the phone detects that you are looking at the screen.

Technically, this feature only serves to reduce distractions while you’re actively using the phone, but several people seem to claim that if the iPhone detects a sleeping face before it rings, it will turn down the alarm sound. thinking that the user is actually looking closely at their screen. Enough to cause some involuntary alarm failures and some problems at school or at work.

To disable this feature, so go to the Settings applicationselect the submenu Accessibility then select Face ID and attentionnot. On the screen that will appear you will then be able to disable the famous “attention-based functions”.

Apple and alarm clocks, a complicated story

Apple has not confirmed that the bug actually came from this part of the code. If you want to be on the safe side, you can still disable the feature, but consider enabling it again if it’s useful to you once Apple rolls out the long-awaited patch.

According to information communicated by Apple to Today Showfrom NBC, the problem should be quickly resolved. Good news since some Internet users on Reddit actually identified the problem more than 4 months ago. This is not the first time that the iPhone alarm clock has acted up. In 2010 and 2011, many Apple phone owners experienced small setbacks due to the transition to winter time or the new year.

And if you’ve never encountered this problem, at least now you have a credible excuse for the next time you’re late for an important appointment.
