“You’re not gay, it doesn’t exist”: Elliot Page accuses a “famous actor” of homophobic remarks

In his autobiographical book, Elliot Page returned to the homophobic remarks made by a famous actor against him during an evening in Hollywood.

A few weeks ago, Elliot Page published his memoirs in a book called Pageboy (available today from Kero editions). The 36-year-old Canadian actor retraces his journey, delivering anecdotes about his career, and also evoking his trans and non-binary coming-out in 2020.

The publication of these memoirs also allowed Elliot Page to return to several episodes during which he suffered homophobia. Especially during an evening in Hollywood, where a “famous actor” (who is not named) verbally abused him a few years before his gender transition.

In his book, the actor of the series Umbrella Academy evokes this story which took place in 2014 during a chapter entitled “That famous asshole at a party”. “You’re not gay. It doesn’t exist. You’re only afraid of men. I’m going to fuck you so you realize you’re not gay” would have said in particular this immense celebrity.

Words very quickly regretted by the latter, who would then have tried to justify himself by ensuring that he had “no problem with gays”. A testimony to the homophobia suffered by Elliot Page on numerous occasions in Hollywood, who decided to include this traumatic memory in his book because they are “stories that are rarely mentioned and that many still don’t know exist”.

The margins of #MeToo, Elliot Page has accused director Brett Ratner of homophobic remarks against him. Then barely nineteen years old during the filming of the film X-Men: The Final Clash, the latter was publicly outed by the filmmaker during his audition.

At that time, the actor also regretted his participation in the film To Rome With Love by Woody Allen, accused of pedophile touching by his adopted daughter Dylan Farrow: “I’m ashamed that I did. I still had to find my voice, I was not who I am today and I felt pressure because ‘of course you have to say yes to this Woody Allen movie.'”

The fourth and final season of Umbrella Academy is to be found soon exclusively on Netflix.
