To facilitate exchanges between creators and users, YouTube is preparing to launch identifiers, which are different from channel names.

YouTube has just announced the launch on the platform in the coming weeks of identifiers. Nothing really revolutionary on the technical level, but it is all the same a real change which comes to fill what was a historical deficiency of the platform. The system of identifiers will thus allow members of a community to find each other and communicate more easily. But that’s not all.

Better and greater interaction between content creators and viewers

In addition to a simpler, direct and easier exchange between users, the arrival of the YouTube ID will allow them to mention the creator of a channel directly in the comments and in the posts found in the “Community” tab. “.

Unlike channel names, YouTube IDs are unique to each creator. Enough to create a real identity on the Google video service. So what will concretely change for YouTube channels?

Each will benefit from its identifier. And since this one will be unique, users who want to contact or tag the @Clubic channel will be sure to address it, and not another. This guarantee of safety will avoid certain confusion caused by a number of channels which has become very large.

YouTube intends to promote the identifier by displaying it in various places on the platform: on the channel’s home page, in search results, in the Shorts feed, in comments and also in posts intended to the community.

Not to be underestimated, the identifier will help content creators to promote their channel also outside of YouTube, to then redirect Internet users to the platform.

Regarding the choice of identifier, there are two possibilities. If your channel already has a custom URL, its unique part will become your default channel ID. But if you don’t have one and would like to have one, or if you want a different identifier, know that it will be quite possible to obtain it.

To do this, you will receive a notification on the YouTube Studio space or an e-mail via which the service will notify you that it is now possible to choose an identifier. If you don’t do anything by November 14, 2022, YouTube will automatically assign channels an ID, which you can change at any time.
