YouTube is tidying up…and fan channels are getting expensive

Youtube will again clean up the channels on the platform. And this time, it is the chains of fans who should toast.

YouTube is lately looking to air the channels on its platform. While the industry giant ultimately had to reverse its decision on abandoned accounts, it should be tougher on fan channels, according to a new announcement.

No to identity theft

Online video platform YouTube has been making waves in recent months as it seeks to bring some order to its channels, whether by targeting individual accounts like Papacito’s or by enforcing regulatory measures more global. Now, the American group will implement a new policy, this time on fan channels.

The latter include content produced by the big creators and sometimes use the codes of the channel they love as a presentation of the account, to the point of making the distinction very difficult. A situation sometimes bordering on identity theft, and which YouTube wants to put an end to with its new policy.

Work begins August 21

A new code of conduct will thus be applied from August 21st. Fan channels will therefore have to make sure to show that it is a different channel, by not copying details such as the profile picture or the background. If the fan does not make the differences explicit, then they may face termination of their account.

So the best will surely be, if you too are the owner of one of these channels, to clearly explain that it is a fan channel. For YouTube, it must be obvious that said channel ” does not represent the creator, artist or entity that the channel is showcasing “. Given the number of bots that the giant uses for its moderation, it will certainly be necessary to be very clear.
