Google announced this week the launch of a first salvo of Emotes on YouTube. Accessible everywhere on the platform, this first series is however limited to reasons related to gaming… at least for the moment.
It’s a small novelty that may not make a very noticeable entry, but who cares: YouTube is launching its own exclusive Emotes, we learn. These small expressive figures, close to emojis, are therefore making their way onto the Google platform, which for the occasion split a brief press release shared at the start of the week.

When words run out, you now have YouTube Emotes, a new way to express yourself with fun images in streams and comments! “, comments YouTube, which is content for the moment with a first salvo of patterns, widely accessible on the service (in chats or comments, in particular), but limited for the moment to the theme of gaming.
Rapid access in the hope of mass distribution
To maximize the chances of community adoption, YouTube makes these Emotes easy to access. These are indeed accessible in one click, from the live chat or comments, by clicking on the “?” icon. As Google specifies, the new Emotes will appear just below the personalized emojis dedicated to subscriberspremiumof some channels.
To use them even faster, these new Emotes will also be accessible directly from keyboard input, thanks to an autocompletion system. For example, it will be possible to invoke the whistling orange cat by starting to type “:cat-orange-whistling:”.
Note however that the deployment of these Emotes is obviously not yet effective everywhere. On our side, we were able to access it from the web interface, but not yet from the YouTube app for iOS. Presumably, however, the large-scale availability of this novelty is well underway.
