YouTube steps up its fight against ad blockers, this time targeting third-party apps

The streaming giant is far from having given up its fight against ad blockers. This is what those who watched YouTube through a third-party application were recently able to realize.

Over the years and its ever-increasing popularity, YouTube has continued to add advertisements, which allow both the monetization of the creator’s content and significant revenue streams for the Google subsidiary. And when a large audience started using ad blockers, YouTube reacted, recently making them more and more difficult to use (the video was not visible when the blocker was detected). A counter-attack which continues to unfold and which today affects third-party applications.

Third-party apps are no longer the panacea for YouTube

YouTube widens the battlefield

This is what the language used today to communicate about the platform’s policy says. “ We only allow third-party applications to use our API if they comply with the terms of use of our API services » is thus indicated, before announcing that “ appropriate actions [seront prises] to protect our platform, our creators and our audience. »

YouTube justifies its harshness with always the same reason: the remuneration of its creators. The company therefore does not authorize “ third-party apps to disable ads, as this prevents the creator from being rewarded for the audience. » It also indicates, once again, that those wishing not to have to be bothered by advertisements can subscribe to its YouTube Premium service.
