Zecler case: "delinquent behavior"

The Director General of Police spoke on the case of the producer beaten by police officers. The four men were brought to justice.

A few days ago, the Loopsider media unveiled the video of a black music producer, Michel Zecler, being beaten up by four police officers in the middle of Paris. Asked by the Sunday newspaper, the director general of the police declared himself "scandalized" by the facts. "These are delinquent behaviors", said Frédéric Veaux about the acts committed by these men.

The Director General of Police also defended the police in general, claiming that the majority did not commit police violence. "The police must behave irreproachably, and this is the case for almost all of them. […] These are the people who work in a professional, honest, responsible manner, who will have to suffer the consequences of such behavior ", he said. His words did not fail to react, the day after the demonstration against the Global Security law. During the "March of Freedoms", Ameer al Halib, a Syrian journalist exiled in France, received a baton in the face, according to Reporters Without Borders, reports AFP.

"You can trust the national police to ensure that these events are treated with the most extreme severity once the responsibilities established ", added Frédéric Veaux about the Zecler affair. According to him, "2020, 39 police officers were excluded from the national police force, 34 in 2019 ". The four police officers were taken into custody on Friday afternoon, and a judicial source told AFP that they were brought to justice on Sunday.
