Zemmour in Vendée to defend a statue symbolizing “Christian traditions”

The presidential candidate, founder of the political party Reconquête !, was on Saturday in Sables d’Olonne (Vendée) alongside the sovereignist Philippe de Villiers.

The far-right candidate for the Elysée Eric Zemmour (Reconquest!) Called on Saturday in Les Sables d’Olonne (Vendée) for the “defense” of a statue of Saint-Michel, “symbol of Christian traditions”, including the justice ordered the withdrawal of a public place. The statue of Saint-Michel is “the object of the idiotic retribution of obsolete secularists”, launched Mr. Zemmour in front of approximately 250 supporters and defenders of the monument, calling for “respect for traditions and history”.

The decision of the Nantes administrative court followed a request from the Vendée federation of the Free Thought Association, which called for the statue to be removed from the public domain as a “manifest religious object”. “We will not allow ourselves to be eradicated by a judicial armed wing hostile to Christian traditions,” added Mr. Zemmour, who stood alongside the sovereignist Philippe de Villiers and Patrick Buisson, former adviser to the Elysee, under the five-year term of Nicolas Sarkozy. In a press release, the candidate denounced a “new victory of the + cancel culture + which instrumentalizes justice (…) to impose its destructive ideology”.

“We are at home”

Earlier in the morning, Mr. Zemmour was greeted at the Town Hall by the mayor of Sables d’Olonne Yannick Moreau (ex-LR), defender of the statue of Saint-Michel. The latter appealed against the administrative tribunal’s decision in December. Eric Zemmour then spoke in front of about 500 people in a municipal hall.
