During a series of sketches, immortalized on her TikTok account, the actress – who plays the mother of Rue, Zendaya’s character in Euphoria – adds: “Zendaya is somewhere in Paris for fashion week… Girl, come home! I need you.”
His comments refer to the numerous delays in season 3 which has still not started filming.
Despite the humorous tone, social media took this message to heart. In her sketch, Nika King mentions actress Taraji P. Henson who recently spoke out – more seriously this time – about the difficulties encountered by black actresses in finding roles. “I called Taraji, she said to me: “Sister, you’ll have to get used to it“, says the actress.
A joke… with a grain of truth
Nika King’s sketch found such an echo on the Web that the actress spoke out in a press release to return to her comments: “My reference to Euphoria in my show was a lighthearted joke. Many people have seen me play very serious roles on screen, but my roots are in comedy.”
She continues: “Currently, I have a few projects getting ready to release this year and I’m very excited about them. It’s a chance to have a career between drama and comedy.” This clarification does not prevent some Internet users from thinking that the actress wanted to send a message about the condition of black actresses in Hollywood.
Still in writing, season 3 of Euphoria is expected for 2025 on HBO.
