Ophélie Meunier will be at the helm of a new, unpublished issue of Zone Interdite magazine on Sunday October 16, 2022, from 9:05 p.m. on M6. Here is what will be the theme of the show that day.
Launched for the first time on the antenna of M6 in 1993, the magazine Restricted zone has now become one of the most essential programs on the channel run by Nicolas de Tavernost. Issued alternately with the magazine Capital, the show will be back for a new issue on Sunday October 16, 2022, from 9:05 p.m. on M6. As a reminder, several emblematic figures of the French audiovisual landscape have succeeded in presenting Zone Interdite over the years. Bernard de la Villardière, Anne-Sophie Lapix, Mélissa Theuriau, or even Wendy Bouchard embodied this magazine, which has now been presented by Ophélie Meunier since 2016. While the National Assembly recently created a delegation for children’s rights, M6 decided to broadcast a new survey dedicated to foster familiesand social hotels.
This report follows another subject devoted to the shortcomings of child welfare, which was broadcast in 2020 in Zone Interdite. M6 has therefore decided to exercise its resale right and investigate this theme again. “In France, Childhood Social Assistance (ASE) has the task of placing each year one hundred and seventy thousand children in danger. The goal is to protect them and make them grow safely. Yet our year-long investigation shows the failures of an entire system and an alarming reality for thousands of children. Foster homes where teenagers are left to fend for themselves, unsanitary hotels where they are parked for months, we have seen little change despite our shock investigation three years ago. Why are there still so many malfunctions? Who is responsible for these failures?“, said M6 in a press release.
Zone Interdite: a new infiltration within child welfare
“A tiny dilapidated hotel room, a wardrobe placed in front of the window to avoid a tragedy, this has been the daily setting of a 16-year-old girl for several months. Out of school, in great psychological distress, she is only waiting for one thing: a place in a foster family. But the system is saturated. Like her, nearly ten thousand children would thus be parked in social hotels, supervised by educators who denounce institutional mistreatment. Not to mention the cost, between 300,000 and 500,000 euros per year and per young person placed. In the homes where half of the ASE children live, the picture is not always rosier. Three years ago, we had shown serious failures and the departments had promised to take action. Gold, we infiltrated again and the situation is far from having improved“, added the chain.
“In one of these homes, teenagers engage in drug trafficking daily, rather than going to school. In another, young girls spend whole nights outside to prostitute themselves. Some even play the beaters. The educators admit their impotence. What are the consequences of these failures? The statistics are overwhelming: 70% of children in care leave ASE without a diploma. 20% have a physical or mental disability, one out of four homeless people is a former foster child. There are of course cocoons in which these children flourish in peace. As with Aline, in the Allier, who hosts three ASE children in her own family. Unfortunately, our investigation also reveals serious shortcomings in the recruitment of foster families. Our journalists pretended to be a couple wishing to receive foster children. A simple meeting was enough. The ASE service provider was ready to entrust them with several minors, in exchange for attractive compensation: 1,500 euros net per month and per child. And this without knowing anything about this couple and without even checking their identity“, finally concluded M6.
