Specifically, the number of passengers last month was 1.365 million. That is 98 percent more than in July 2020. Compared to July 2019, i.e. the time before the corona virus, it was almost 57 percent less.
With the beginning of the summer holidays, the number of passengers increased significantly, according to a message from the airport on Wednesday evening. On individual peak days, over 65,000 passengers traveled through Zurich Airport. In the reporting month, for the first time since March 2020, over a million passengers passed through Zurich Airport.
The number of local passengers was 1.037 million in July 2021. Almost 321,000 people were transfer passengers, which corresponds to a share of 23.6 percent.
The number of flight movements rose compared to the same month last year by 55 percent to 15,283 take-offs or landings. Compared to July 2019, however, there were still 41 percent fewer flight movements.
At 116.6, the average number of passengers per flight was 11.3 percent above the previous year’s figure, while seat occupancy rose by 5.8 percentage points to 68.1 percent.
In addition, a total of 31,701 tons of freight were handled at Zurich Airport in July, an increase of 47 percent compared to the same month last year. Compared to July 2019, however, it was still 16 percent less. The commercial turnover in July 2021 is given at 34.6 million francs (+ 63%).
