1: 0 against Lugano – Ironically, helmet wearer Fassnacht redeemed unimaginative YB – Sport

  • The Young Boys celebrate a difficult 1-0 home win against Lugano at the start of the second half of the season.
  • In the second game of the evening, leader FCZ wins against Servette 1:0.

Champion YB didn’t find a recipe against well-placed Ticino for an hour in the home Wankdorf Stadium. Coach David Wagner was therefore forced to replace noble reservist Miralem Sulejmani and Wilfried Kanga. As with the 3-1 win at the same venue against the same opponent on December 1, this paid off after a short time.

The Serb played a one-two with Kanga and then put it back to Christian Fassnacht, who was ready to score. The national player finished ice cold in the 71st minute.

Fassnacht meets the comeback

This perfectly executed attack compensated the fans for an otherwise unimaginative performance by the home team. The fact that Fassnacht scored the goal gave the action a cheesy touch. Because the 28-year-old celebrated after his mid-November 2021 sustained head injury (fracture of the temporal bone) made his comeback. Fassnacht wore a head protection, which is mainly known from goalies. “He gives me a lot of security,” he explained.

Fassnacht openly admitted that the game was a “giant bang”. The two goalies hardly had any work. In the 64th minute, YB debutant Anthony Racioppi defused a good shot by Mattia Bottani. Lugano keeper Amir Saipi was hardly tested.

YB offensive shockingly harmless

The only big chance of the whole game of the Bernese promptly led to the only goal. This offensive weakness is extremely unusual for the Young Boys, especially in home games.

In the absence of the recovered Jean-Pierre Nsame (positive corona test) and the impeller Nicolas Moumi Ngamaleu (Africa Cup), Jordan Siebatcheu could hardly put himself in the limelight. In the last match of the first half of the season, the Lugano striker conceded 4 more goals.

Shortly before kick-off, the Bernese announced the injury of Meschack Elia. It is still unclear how long the wing car will be out.

This is how it goes

YB is still 8 points behind leader Zurich. On Sunday, February 6th, the Bernese are guests in St. Gallen. Lugano welcomes FC Luzern.
