Michael Bully Herbig brings the Claas Relotius fake scandal from 2018 to the big screen. Elyas M'Barek plays a leading role.

Michael Bully Herbig (52) is bringing a new film to the big screen. Together with UFA Fiction, the director adapts the book "Thousand Lines of Lies" by Juan Moreno (48), in which the forgery scandal at "Spiegel" in 2018 is discussed. According to a press release from UFA, the film will be titled "1000 ZEILEN" and staged as media satire. The main roles are therefore Elyas M'Barek (38) and Jonas Nay (30).

Nay plays the journalist Claas Relotius (Lars Bogenius in the film), who published numerous reports on "Spiegel" and was then showered with many prizes. M'Barek slips into the part of Juan Moreno (in the film Romero), who uncovered that year that a lot of data had been manipulated by Relotius. Michael Bully Herbig takes over the direction.

Filming starts in summer

UFA Fiction acquired the film rights to Moreno's book some time ago. "You can hardly find a better story for the big screen. (…) In Michael Bully Herbig, we have been able to win an outstanding director for this film, who also has top talent in all other positions," says UFA- Managing director Sebastian Werninger quoted in the message.

Filming is scheduled to begin this summer. The film will therefore be shot in Munich, Berlin, Hamburg and Spain. In addition to UFA Fiction and Herbig, the companies Feine Films and Warner Bros. are also involved in the production.
