1192 facilities – great need for childcare throughout Tyrol

Over the past five years, 95 new after-school care centers, crèches and kindergartens have been added nationwide. The state of Tyrol would like to meet the demand with the ongoing expansion of the offers. The number of children to be looked after in Tyrol reached a new high this year. Comprehensive infrastructure should also relieve parents in rural areas and promote quality of life.

In the 2020/21 childcare year, all Tyrolean childcare facilities will take care of a total of 31,705 children. The previous high from last year has thus been exceeded again. The State of Tyrol is committed to further expanding the range of all-day, year-round and local childcare in order to meet demand.

“The number of childcare facilities has grown in the past five years by 95 units to a total of 1192,” says Education Councilor Beate Palfrader. During this period, 60 new crèches, 23 day-care centers and twelve kindergartens were created, as the current childcare statistics show. “We are thus making an important contribution to covering the need for care and ensuring the best possible work-life balance,” explains Palfrader.

Care is essential in the communities
Local councilor Johannes Tratter considers the nationwide expansion of childcare to be indispensable in order to strengthen rural areas. “A good infrastructure with appropriate childcare contributes to the high quality of life in both rural and urban regions.”

All Tyrolean municipalities with more than 2,000 inhabitants are now equipped with kindergartens, around 95 percent of these villages also have crèches, explains Tratter. “For many Tyrolean parents, these statistical figures mean a noticeable relief in their everyday work and family life.”
