During Donald Trump’s (75) presidency, Corona strategist Deborah Birx (65) was the “voice of reason” in the USA alongside virologist Anthony Fauci (80). Now she’s unpacking about how the ex-president didn’t listen to her advice. It officially states that more than 130,000 people died unnecessarily.
The Trump administration was “distracted” by last year’s elections and clearly ignored recommendations to contain the pandemic. Deborah Birx said that aloud Washington Post to investigators on the House of Representatives Committee of Inquiry into the pandemic.
“Could have reduced deaths by 30 to 40 percent”
“I felt that the campaign season had made the White House complacent,” said Deborah Birx, who was hired by President Donald Trump as a senior corona strategist.
Birx, who answered questions from the subcommittee on October 12 and 13, also gave figures. More than 130,000 lives could have been saved if one had acted faster after the first wave of the virus and had better communication with the public.
“I think if we had fully implemented masking requirements, restricting indoor dining, raising awareness among friends and family about the risk of home gatherings – and increasing the number of tests, we would probably have the death toll to 30 up to 40 percent, ”said Birx.
Has Trump done everything he could? “No”
More than 735,000 Americans have died as a result of the coronavirus since the pandemic began. Birx had already told reporters earlier this year how difficult it was to respond to the pandemic in an election year.
When asked to explain her earlier comments, Birx told the subcommittee that some officials were “active in the campaign and not as present in the White House as they used to be.”
The election year distracted people from the pandemic, Birx said. When asked directly whether Trump “did everything he could to contain the spread of the virus and save lives during the pandemic,” Birx replied: “No”. (euc)
