140 seconds for a tweet: Twitter introduces voice messages

Users can now also send spoken tweets on Twitter. The function is in the test phase and so far only works in the iPhone app. It remains open to what extent the US short message service acts against hate speech and dangerous misinformation in the voice messages.

Twitter gives users a test opportunity to publish tweets as voice messages. A spoken tweet can be up to 140 seconds long. If you speak longer, the next message starts automatically. The function will initially only be available in the Twitter app for the iOS system of Apple's iPhones and iPads, as Twitter announces. However, everyone should be able to listen to them.

The new function can be used on the personal Twitter user account via the "Wavelength" icon. If the user clicks on the icon, he comes to a record button to record a voice tweet. This in turn appears as an audio file that can be clicked on.

Twitter did not go into the blog entry on how to implement measures against hate speech, baiting or dangerous false information in spoken tweets. Platforms like Facebook and Twitter have now started to scan the posts to discover such content instead of waiting for user reports.

Among other things, Twitter recently took strict action against incorrect information about the corona virus, which could harm people, and in attempts to keep citizens away from elections. For the first time, tweets from US President Donald Trump were marked accordingly.

A Twitter spokesman told CNN that they were working on additional surveillance systems before the feature could be rolled out. The voice tweets will also be checked for information from users and measures taken if necessary.
