14th round of the Super League – 6:1 shooting festival in Wankdorf: YB dismantles Lucerne – Sport

  • BSC Young Boys gave Lucerne no chance in the home game of the 14th Super League round and won 6-1.
  • Meschack Elia stands out as a double goalscorer, Darian Males and Ebrima Colley score for the first time in YB uniforms.
  • In the other two games on Saturday evening, St. Gallen won against Winterthur 4-2, Yverdon and Lausanne-Sport drew 2-2.

The signs for a victory for Lucerne in their guest appearance at YB could have been better – to put it mildly. While YB has been unbeaten in the Super League for 6 games, Lucerne has been waiting for a win in Wankdorf since February 2020. YB has won all of the last 27 championship home games.

There was also no sign of the additional workload of the Bernese, who had to travel to Manchester during the week. And so it didn’t take long until it became clear in the federal city who was holding the scepter:

  • 6th minute: Less than 6 revolutions of the pointer after the kick-off, Meschack Elia takes the free kick – and circles the ball over the wall and into the net.
  • 13th minute: Another 6 minutes later the ball fidgets again in the net behind the pitiful Lucerne goalie Pascal Loretz. Darian Males gets the ball in the penalty area, takes it with a surprising amount of time and space and notes his first goal in the YB uniform.

Meyer provides (short-term) FCL momentum

After YB played cat and mouse with the guest, Lucerne’s Sofyan Chader appeared practically out of nowhere in the Bern penalty area in the 28th minute. Because YB’s Lewin Blum started the impetuous tackle, referee Lionel Tschudi logically pointed to the spot. Max Meyer sank the penalty to make it 1:2.

The German not only ended his personal goal drought, but also brought some momentum to Lucerne’s efforts, which had previously been nipped in the bud by the organized YB team. Lucerne suddenly had chances, Meyer and Teddy Okou narrowly missed Lucerne’s equalizer.

However, the pendulum should swing again before the tea break. Elia shook Bern’s home bastion once again with a 3-1 win. Shortly before the whistle from the left, the Congolese tried the classic “Spitzgugge” and surprised Loretz.

Lucerne is being dismantled into individual parts

After a good hour, the last hopes of a Lucerne surprise in the Wankdorf hour were dashed. YB began to break down the Lucerne guests into their individual parts:

The Bernese team’s 6-1 win is historic: Lucerne has never suffered such a heavy defeat in the Super League this millennium.

This is how it goes

The action in the Super League will be suspended for two weeks – the national team break is coming up. Both teams continue on Saturday, November 25th at 6 p.m. YB is visiting FC Zurich for the top game, Lucerne is hosting FC Winterthur at home.
