As the Olympics approach, the government wants to limit logistical traffic challenges as much as possible. Even going so far as to give advice on home parcel deliveries.
In a few weeks, France should welcome millions of tourists coming to attend the 2024 Olympic Games. Faced with such a human influx, the government is trying to take the lead. While the Île-de-France region has already announced that it is working on alternative Google Maps routes and the police chief has mentioned QR codes for traveling in certain corners of the capital, the ministry responsible for transport has sent him instructions concerning purchases on the Internet, and more specifically the delivery of parcels to your home.
Avoid delivery during games
As noted by BFM, Christophe Béchu’s office has published a Frequently Asked Questions page which summarizes everything there is to know about traffic authorizations and bans during the games. In the 48 links present on the page, one therefore concerns the delivery of parcels to individuals.
To avoid traffic congestion and facilitate the delivery of your packages, the ministry invites Internet users to “anticipate your package orders so that they are delivered before July 24, after September 8 or between the two Olympics, i.e. between August 12 and 27, 2024“. Obviously, there is no question of a delivery ban, but just instructions to be applied “as far as possible“.
Choose delivery on foot or by bike
If it is not possible to shift certain deliveries before or after the games period, the State advises targeting slots during “hours and days with less traffic“, to favor “deliveries by bike or on foot” or “at a relay point outside security perimeters“. To help those who still wish to benefit from home delivery, the Ministry of Transport has made available an interactive map detailing traffic restrictions by day and hour in Île-de-France and elsewhere.
For professionals, proof will be required in the event of delivery to regulated areas and registration on a dedicated platform (which will open soon) will be necessary. As the government website states, “traffic constraints will be progressive from March 2024, the start date of assembly for certain sites“.
