2024 trends: artificial intelligence and TikTok?

Habits evolve and it’s always interesting at the start of the year to imagine what the future will hold. It’s a fact, we spend more time on mobile applications, and we also spend more and more money on them. Whether it is social networks where we scroll much more than we publish, messaging services or e-commerce, we can without shame recognize our dependence on applications and more broadly on mobile.

According to data.ai’s lengthy State of Mobile report, the average person spends 5 hours a day on their smartphone. An increase of 6% compared to 2022 due largely to our use of social networks. Although we publish less on our personal accounts, we see that activity is growing privately. We therefore spend more time consuming content, mainly for entertainment, and we then exchange messages. Open “social” activity as we knew it is transforming and time on mobile continues to progress.

Logically, with more users and increased consultation of applications, the business grows. It is estimated that in 2023 consumers will have spent more than $60 billion through mobile apps. Monetization plays an important role in the commodification of content and it is not expected to slow down this year!

We first think of TikTok which, thanks to its audience, is the first app to have reached 10 billion dollars in consumption. A performance unimaginable a few years ago, while today the social network exceeds a billion dollars each quarter. Today, these in-app expenses mainly come down to “coins” used to tip creators during Live. Next step ? Merge the platform with in-stream purchases to move up a gear and become an all-purpose app!

The other big topic of the moment remains artificial intelligence and in particular its generative applications. Until now ignored, the Bing search engine is catching up some of its delay on Google, thanks to the integration of certain ChatGPT features. Downloads have increased by 1500% on the Microsoft platform.

The general public’s interest in generative AI can only be growing, and the year 2024 should bring its share of innovations to this booming market; whether for professional or general public use.
