24.4 million dollars: this saga is ending soon… With an impressive dive into the 80s!

After “X” and “Pearl”, the Ti West trilogy led by Mia Goth will end this year with “MaXXXine”: a slasher which takes place in Hollywood in 1985 and of which the first images have been revealed.

A strange fate than that of French rooms.

At the time when American audiences discovered its prequel, Pearl. Always carried by Mia Goth, who is also the co-writer of the film with its director Ti West, the feature film took place in Texas during the First World War and played the card of a more psychological and unhealthy horror by following the future villain of X.

An opus which skipped our theaters to be released directly on VOD in 2023, while the third and final episode had already been filmed. Entitled MaXXXine, it will take the saga another leap in time, to set its plot in the Hollywood of 1985.

It is here that the heroine, the only survivor of the massacre perpetrated in which is rampant in the area.

Elizabeth Debicki, Kevin Bacon, Lily Collins, Bobby Cannavale, Michelle Monaghan and Giancarlo Esposito are also in the cast of this film, the trailer of which shows some cinematographic references (Chinatown or Psycho, the sets of which we see on one of the sets from Universal studio), and which will be released on July 5 in the United States.

3 films in 2 years

The French date is not yet known (and nothing says that the film will be released in theaters). But this means that the three parts of the X/Pearl/MaXXXine trilogy will be released within two years. Where it took four for The Matrix and Back to the Future, or six for the first Star Wars, for comparison.

Without the same notoriety. Despite their effectiveness and Ti West’s way of approaching different variations of horror, his saga is not one of the best of recent years (X is rated 3 out of 5 by AlloCiné Internet users, and Pearl 3.5), and is not yet a benchmark. But maybe MaXXXine will change the situation.

Mia Goth facing justice?

Unless he were to suffer from an incident that occurred behind the scenes: last January, Rolling Stone revealed that an extra filed a complaint against Mia Goth, accusing her of intentionally hitting him in the head during the filming of a scene, and that no action was taken within the production when he reported the incident. Apart from the dismissal of the complainant.

The case has, for the moment, no impact on the release of the film. But things can still change between now and July.
