"30 percent, that's not possible": Dehoga advises local people not to use delivery services

"30 percent, that's not possible"
Dehoga advises restaurants not to use delivery services

The restaurant association recommends that its members deliver food themselves whenever possible. "Anyone who has a business in a good location and with regular customers should always try to offer the pick-up service themselves."

The German Hotel and Restaurant Association (Dehoga) advises restaurants not to work with delivery services such as Lieferando and Wolt. "30 percent – the restaurateur can't exist there. That doesn't work at all," said Dehoga general manager Ingrid Hartges to the "Tagesspiegel". Hartges was referring to the commission that delivery services collect from restaurants. This amounts to 30 percent of the receipt for a delivery.

"Anyone who has a business in a good location and with regular customers should always try to offer the pick-up service themselves," said Hartges. "It is definitely worth it more because there are no commissions and direct contact with the guests is maintained."

According to the association, some Berlin restaurateurs feel at the mercy of the delivery services in the current situation. Accordingly, they complain that they intervene in their pricing and that the costs are not transparent. Dehoga wants to start a survey among restaurateurs in January.

The provider Wolt stated that when restaurants went on the Wolt platform, "they undertake not to raise their prices above the usual level". Lieferando said that every restaurant could of course continue to set its prices. But if the dishes get more expensive, the same should apply to the local menus.
