3240 euros fine – woman kills dog “Balu” with rat poison treats

The defendant speaks of financial problems
The indebted 25-year-old answered Judge Anna Sophia Geisselhofer’s why question with one word: “short-circuit reaction.” When the judge and prosecutor probed further, the defendant explained that she had financial problems: “It was because of the debts. It’s all become too much for me.” This surprises the judge again: “And then they spend money on poison?” The defense attorney also said that the crime was related to a “relationship drama.” But that’s exactly not what the ex sees, as he explains in the witness stand: “No, actually it worked well.” Both had wanted the dog. After the separation he stayed with the woman – but the man was allowed to see him. On September 2nd, he took him to the vet: “There was already a suspicion of poisoning.” On September 7th, the 25-year-old called him and reported the dog’s death: “When I came, he was lying down in the basement. He was cold, completely wet and already stiff.”
