  • Manchester United can’t get past a 3-3 draw away against Galatasaray in Group A of the Champions League and is dependent on help on the last matchday to stay in the competition.
  • Copenhagen holds league leaders Bayern to a 0-0 draw and still has a good chance of reaching the knockout phase.

As in the last game in the Champions League against Copenhagen (3-4 defeat), Manchester United took the cake after taking the lead in their visit to Istanbul. The “Red Devils” only managed a 3-3 draw against Galatasaray.

After Scott McTominays made it 3-1 in the 55th minute, United were well on their way to victory. Goalie André Onana enabled the Turks to make a comeback. He let a strong free kick from Hakim Ziyech pass to make it 2-3 (62′), after he hadn’t looked good when the same shooter made it 1-2. Kerem Aktürkoglu finally scored to make it 3-3 (71′). Bruno Fernandes narrowly missed making it 4-3 when he shot off the post in the 85th minute.

Youngster Alejandro Garnacho (11th) and Fernandes (18th) initially put Manchester on course with a 2-0 lead with a remarkable long-range shot.

Galatasaray and Copenhagen are ahead

In the other game in Group A, Copenhagen held Bayern, who had already qualified for the round of 16, to a 0-0 draw. Shortly before the end, the Germans almost pocketed a princely reward for a pomaded performance. However, referee Stéphanie Frappart withdrew a hand penalty in stoppage time.

Thanks to the draw, the Danes now have 5 points like Galatasaray. In order to progress, Manchester United (4) depends on a draw between the two rivals in the direct duel on the last matchday in two weeks and at the same time must win at home against Bayern.
