At the bend of a sequence of “365 days: The next day”, a reply highlights the hypocrisy of the Netflix platform which tries to repair the controversies aroused during the release of the first film.
Released in 2020, 365 Dni tells the unlikely “romance” between a young woman, Laura (Anna-Maria Sieklucka), and Massimo (Michele Morrone), a member of the Sicilian mafia. No romance on the horizon since the mobster decides to kidnap his victim and gives her 365 days to fall in love with him. The film, adapted from the eponymous book by Blanka Lipińska, is a huge success on Netflix due, in particular, to its many erotic scenes.
However, the controversy is pointing the tip of his nose. The story provokes the anger of many spectators. Many criticize the feature film team for glamorizing violence against women, glorifying rape and sex trafficking. During the release, Welsh singer Duffy, herself a victim of kidnapping, address a letter to Netflix. She asks for the withdrawal of this film, which she considers a danger.
Faced with the considerable cardboard of the erotic thriller, Netflix decides to sign for two additional sequels. The platform does not completely ignore the criticism and indicates that these new components will be less violent. Result ? The promise is more or less kept. The sequel, titled 365 Days: The Next Day, is just as steamy as ever, but far less awkward. The creative team chooses to move away from the original books, which push the cursors much further.

In a scene from the second film, a dialogue between Laura and Massimo “subtly” returns to the problems of the first film. The sequence occurs after half an hour. “I know our beginnings were difficult, or rather crazyexplains the former captive. You kidnapped me, and that’s crazy. But I fell in love with you and we’re together because I decided.”
In a few words, the writers and the platform are trying to reverse the situation. They justify this relationship on the pretext that it is Laura’s choice. A credible way to transform the heroine – and victim – into an independent woman, master of her destiny.
For Netflix, there was absolutely no question of parting with such a success. Rather than canceling the sequels of the first film, they choose to shove the violence experienced by the female character under the rug. On social networks, some Internet users continue to point the finger at the dubious morality of the franchise. A third episode is already expected.
