3G rule in the plenary hall: Members in the stands?

3G rule in the Chamber
MPs in the stands?

The 3G regulation is already in use in many federal states. Now is also compulsory for the members of parliament in sessions of the Bundestag. Anyone who refuses or does not provide any information must vacate the space and participate at a distance.

The constituent session of the Bundestag on October 26th is to take place with a 3G rule – so only MPs who have recovered, have been fully vaccinated or are currently tested should be admitted to the plenary hall. At least that’s what it says in an email from the director to the parliamentary offices. “Members of parliament who do not disclose their immunization status and who do not want to be tested are given access to the seats available for this purpose in the grandstands of the plenary chamber.”

When taking these places, the pandemic-related distance requirement must be observed. A voting booth and a voting urn would be available in the stands. The opportunity to make speeches is also guaranteed there.

Bracelets for MPs

In order to make the access control to the 3G rule as simple as possible, the MPs should obtain a wrist strap in advance of the meeting.

According to a survey by the Bundestag administration among parliamentarians, 514 members of the newly elected Bundestag are fully vaccinated according to their own information. When asked whether you had full vaccination against the virus, 22 answered no, no answer 5. 541 of the 735 MPs took part in the survey.

When asked to MPs who have neither a full vaccination nor a convalescent status, whether they would be willing to be tested before the constituent session, 7 answered no.
