4.1 out of 5: people often forget that this very good movie is a Marvel!

(Re)discover “The New Heroes”, the one and only animated classic from the enchanted studios to be adapted… from a Marvel comic-book, and available on Disney+!

In the futuristic megalopolis of San Fransokyo (fictional mix between San Francisco and Tokyo), Hiro Hamada is a young teenager with an ingenious and inventive spirit. A true little robotics genius, he uses his talent to crush his competitors in clandestine robot battles. When his big brother Tadashi offers to accompany him to university to discover a more noble way to exploit his inexhaustible creativity, Hiro causes a sensation with his micro robots, and everyone seems to want to work with him.

But at the end of the presentation, a mysterious fire breaks out in the faculty, and Tadashi dies in an explosion. Devastated by the death of his older brother, Hiro discovers that the latter left him his ultimate invention: a medical robot called Baymax.

Released in the mid-2010s between two box office behemoths (Frozen and Zootopia), The New Heroes is the first (and to date only) animated classic from Disney studios adapted from a comic book. Marvel.

This unprecedented association – made possible following the acquisition of Marvel Entertainment by the firm with the big ears in 2009 – allows the film by Don Hall and Chris Williams to blow a superheroic wind worthy of the Avengers on Mickey’s studios.

On the menu of this animated Marvel, we will therefore find all the ingredients of the genre: a team of vigilantes, flying armor, a supervillain and epic battle sequences in the heart of the city. Without forgetting the traditional trademark of the house: the essential cameo of Stan Lee, legendary creator of the most famous Marvel heroes.

But under these explosive finery, which will inevitably remind fans of the adventures of Iron Man or the Guardians of the Galaxy, The New Heroes remains a Disney above all! Its universe is certainly very far from great classics such as Aladdin or Peter Pan, but its DNA is totally in line with the studio’s heritage. We will thus find there a magnificent story of friendship and very beautiful sequences of emotion which can even, in the purest tradition of the studio, make you shed a little tear.

With an average rating of 4.093 stars out of 5 by AlloCiné spectators, Les Nouveaux Héros collected a nice score of 657 million dollars worldwide when it was released in theaters, which makes it the 7th largest studio success.

Whether you are a fan of Marvel, Disney, or both, do not hesitate to try the adventure with your family!

What they will like…

  • Baymax, of course! This inflatable, clumsy and overprotective robot is one of the most endearing characters that Disney artists have managed to create in recent years.
  • The sequence where Hiro flies over the city of San Fransokyo for the first time on the back of his robot friend. An epic and breathtaking scene, a typical example of the successful marriage between Marvel spectacle and Disney magic.

What can worry them…

  • Nothing really scary in The New Heroes. But the sudden disappearance of Tadashi and the mourning of Hiro, at the beginning of the film, could on the other hand affect the youngest spectators.
