4 series to watch after Fallout on Prime Video

The series by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy (Westworld), which adapts the successful video game saga, is finally available on Prime Video. Here are 4 similar series to discover in streaming: The Last of Us, Peripherals: The Worlds of Flynne, The Walking Dead: World Beyond as well as The Expanse.

It was one of the most scrutinized series of 2024 and it met all expectations upon its release: fallout is the event of the month of April for Prime Video. A big-budget adaptation of the famous video games, which still takes welcome liberties with the original post-apocalyptic universe. But once the 8 episodes have been swallowed up and while waiting for season 2, what to watch in streaming afterwards fallout ?

The Last of Us

Difficult to mention fallout not to mention the video game adaptation that changed everything: The Last of Us. Released at the start of 2023, this series takes up the original story, namely the road trip of Joël and Ellie in a frankly terrifying post-apocalyptic universe. Neil Druckmann, who had worked on the games, and Craig Mazin (Chernobyl) have quite simply created the best video game adaptation in history, now neck and neck with fallout.

The result is an intimate work, with universal reach, which immediately rose to the top of the serial Pantheon through its emotional power. Warning: if the first episode of The Last of Us is accessible for free, the following 8 are now available with the Warner Pass, in addition to a Prime Video subscription, at the price of €9.99/month.

Peripherals: The Worlds of Flynne

If fallout manages so well to capture the essence of the original video games and to draw from them a coherent serial universe, it is mainly thanks to the know-how of Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy in production. The duo, who revolutionized science fiction on television with Westworld in 2016, continued its momentum with Peripherals: The Worlds of Flynnein 2022. Less prestigious and impressive than their first series, this SF epic, adapted from the novel by William Gibson, still has serious arguments in its favor.

Set in 2030, the series explores a daily life where virtual reality allows the whole world to escape every day. But when Flynne Fisher finds a VR headset that’s a bit different from the others, she discovers a dizzying glimpse of the future… An ambitious narrative, between Matrix And Ready Player One, which skillfully plays with our perceptions, but which nevertheless lacks humanity.

The Walking Dead: World Beyond

The Ones Who Live, Daryl Dixon, Fear The Walking Dead… You are probably lost in the face of the amount of fiction derived from the famous zombie series. But among this profusion of undead, there is the little-known World Beyonda chronological sequel to The Walking Deadwhich addresses themes similar to those of fallout.

It follows a group of teenagers, the first survivors who grew up after the apocalypse. Until now protected from dangers, Iris and Hope will then leave their shelter to begin a long journey across the country and come to their father’s aid. Like the character Lucy in falloutthe heroines of World Beyond thus discover the full extent of a frightening post-apocalyptic world. A spin-off in two seasons which still draws more towards the teen drama Disney Channel option than towards the terror of its elder, The Walking Dead.

The Expanse

We gain a little height with the latest addition to this selection: The Expanse, which takes us into space, 200 years after our time. In a futuristic world, humanity has expanded with colonies on Mars and in the Asteroid Belt. But political conflicts are numerous, and divisions threaten the fragile balance of the system. With 6 high-flying seasons, The Expanse established herself as a worthy descendant of Battlestar Galacticaeven as one of the best science fiction series on the small screen.

We thus find ourselves passionate about nebulous diplomatic issues, but also about scientific advances, thanks to lovely special effects and a credible representation of the future. The Expanse takes its time to expose all its strengths but once you get the hang of it, the series is a real visual and narrative treat.
