5 far too blatant plagiarisms of LoL, TFT and Valorant

Teamfight Tactics, Valorant, Legends of Runeterra and soon Project L — in 2019, Riot Games announced a legion of new games supporting League of Legends. And, in line with their main license, all these new franchises have met with great success, so much so that they have come to “inspire” other games.

“Tributes” frankly copied / pasted who push the limit of reasonable inspiration far too far, making no effort to truly conceal the reality of who they really are: lazy plagiarism.

TFT vs. I Am Hero: AFK Tactical Teamfight

The first case on our list has already suffered the wrath of Riot Games, since the Californian firm sued the Imba Network studioat the origin of the mobile game I Am Hero: AFK Tactical Teamfight. The thing borders on insolence: not only does this mobile game use a variant of the name TFTbut even worse seems to assert its plagiarism, since some of its characters have names similar to LoL and TFT champions (Vy and Liona, instead of Vi and Leona). Riot Games is calling for the game to be banned, and is demanding $150,000 for each copyright violation.

LoL vs. Heroes & Empires

the NFT Heroes & Empires game corresponds in all respects to the very definition of plagiarism. Although the mechanics have nothing to do with LoL, since it is a game aimed at acquiring different characters in order to create an internal market between players, on the other hand the characters in question resemble in all respects League of Legends champions. Zak, a near carbon copy of Zac, Nama, curiously identical to Nami, or even QQtrox, the QWERTY version of Aatrox — some obvious examples of plagiarism that frankly makes no effort.

LoL vs. Mobile Legends

In 2018, Tencent owner of Riot Games, got $2.9 million after winning a lawsuit against Moontondeveloper of Mobile Legends and Magic Rush: Heroes. Whether it was the champions, the skills, or even the map, the mobile game was indeed plagiarizing League of Legends to the point where it was far too obvious. To make matters worse, in 2019 the rivalry between LoL and Mobile Legends was further heightened when Moonton released a character named Terizla and whose intro video was extremely similar to the teaser of Sylas

LoL vs. Free Fire

Although the game is very different from League of Legends, Free Fire also enters this list — say, through the back door. Why ? Because the Battle Royal – which, for once, looks too much like a PUBG – would have been inspired by League of Legends cutscenes in some of its own trailers. Indeed, Garena, the company behind the game, has been accused of reusing some iconic scenes from the Awaken music video to promote Maximum Penalty, a Free Fire Battle Pass released in late 2019. cameras, the layout of the stages, these troops entering the room in the same way, and even this face – everything seems to indicate, if not plagiarism, at least a very strong inspiration.

However, it is important to note that Garena is the company that distributes League of Legends in various Southeast Asian countries. More so, Tencent, the parent company of Riot Games, is the majority shareholder of Sea Limited, the group that owns Garena. In other words, it seems difficult to know if the same artistic teams worked on the two projects… However, it is undeniable that the scenes are quite similar – as evidenced by the two videos below.

Valorant vs. Hyper Front

Despite a lot of criticism following the game’s announcement, NetEase has officially released the Hyper Front mobile game, the January 20, 2022. In fact, trailers announcing the game appeared on social media weeks before it arrived, and Valorant fans immediately decried what they considered an absolutely sanctimonious copycat. Whether it’s the character design, the graphic and visual style, or the maps, Hyper Front has everything of a Valorant that would have gone through the machine, before being spit out on mobile…
