Many teleworkers recognize that they are ill, sometimes very ill-equipped to engage in the practice of remote work. A situation due to the overall dilapidation of the computer equipment.

Do you think you are sufficiently well equipped, you, as a teleworker? A study conducted by BuzzPress for the company Fleet with more than 2,000 people shows us that if the COVID-19 pandemic has pushed the French to start working from home, employees still have to do a lot with old computers, not really suitable for working at distance.

The IT infrastructure of teleworkers is aging

59% of French people surveyed say they are not well equipped for teleworking, while remote work carried out in good conditions improves the well-being of employees at work. In this segment, 20% indicate that they are moderately well equipped and 39% admit that they are not equipped at all. Conversely, 41% of employees say they have ideal equipment to carry out their mission(s).

The root cause of this feeling is the old age of the equipment. As proof, 37% of respondents say they work with a computer that is more than 4 years old, and 33% with a device that is 3 to 4 years old. Suffice to say, therefore, that the pandemic has not pushed everyone to renew their equipment.

PCs between one and two years old make up only 19% of the computer park among the French people questioned. Only 11% say they bought a computer less than a year ago.

The slowness, the shaky autonomy and the difficult Wi-Fi connection of the computers undermine the morale of the employees

To go further, nearly 6 out of 10 French people (58%) would like their employer to change their computer to a more recent and more efficient model. It must be said that the dilapidation of a PC generates various problems that many teleworkers would like to do without and that affect their productivity.

For example, we can mention the autonomy of the computer, pointed out by 45% of respondents, but above all the slowness of the machine, for 59% of French people. The poor Wi-Fi connection (31%) is also one of the main faults raised by the respondents.

The rise of telework has more generally come up against a context of shortage of components and lack of anticipation. 41% of employees found that companies had not foreseen these difficulties at all, when they are 15% who say that their company does not have the means to take a step forward in terms of computer equipment. While 40% of French people report suffering at least once a week from a technical problem that simply prevents them from working, we can say that there is still a long way to go to achieve the happiness of teleworking.
