After Mercedes, Polestar’s turn to boost power

A few days ago, Mercedes lifted the veil on a new form of car subscription, with its “Acceleration increase” pack. For $1,200/year, the brand offers those who wish to boost the power of their electric car. Today, it’s Polestar’s turn to take a similar step.

However, no subscription on the manufacturer’s side, since this is a new update aimed at offering a 68 hp boost to its Polestar 2 in Long Range Dual Motor version. The particularity of this update (and you guessed it) is that it is… paying.

To update your Polestar, you have to get your hands on the wallet

Indeed, our modern vehicles have, like our smartphones and other video game consoles, OTA updates (over the air). Convenient for adding features, or even for fixing some bugs and other malfunctions remotely. Most of the time, these updates are free.

However, Sweden’s Polestar is now offering owners of a Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor an optional upgrade, priced at $1,195. No subscription here, it is indeed a firm and definitive purchase, allowing the vehicle to see its power increase permanently to 476 hp and 502 Nm of torque.

Since the upgrade is software-based, this performance increase can be downloaded directly to the vehicle without having to visit a Polestar service point. To take advantage of it, simply buy the update on the Polestar online store, and the latter will be automatically deployed in stride on the target vehicle. Finally, note that the update is automatically installed for vehicles equipped with the Performance Pack (at 5,000 dollars).
