This is also what two older women thought when they first started talking in an Innsbruck clinic. The Austrians were both hospitalized for Covid 19 symptoms and found themselves again. They exchanged views, about their situation, about the past – and came across fascinating parallels.
The two women had already been in the hospital together
According to the "Tiroler Tageszeitung" it was almost exactly 70 years ago that Ilse and Brunhilde suddenly had very similar symptoms: fever, vomiting and pain. Both girls were examined by their respective pediatricians and, with the suspicion of polio, transferred to a larger clinic – the very same Innsbruck clinic where they were now. At that time, numerous children contracted polio. Between 1946 and 1961, around 13,000 children were diagnosed with polio because they have not yet been vaccinated regularly.
The two girls made friends in the dormitory at the time, but lost sight of each other when one of them was released. The two old ladies even think that they had not only been in the same clinic but in the same room. According to the "Tiroler Tageszeitung", they wrote their memories separately for 70 years to prove that it was actually an almost unbelievable coincidence.
Her eyes looked familiar
The clinic has now examined the incident. Johannes Schwamberger, spokesman for Tirol Kliniken, told the Austrian radio station Kronehit: "We checked that and found that this building was actually still the children's clinic at the time. You recognized yourself because one of the two looked familiar to the other. "
By the way, both of the almost 80-year-old women are said to have recovered and left the hospital. We can only hope that they can maintain their friendly connection this time.
