Using apples is very easy! We introduce you to 8 delicious recipes and other processing options.

An apple tree of your own that sheds a lot of apples or simply bought too many: sometimes there is food left over that is, of course, far too good not to be consumed. Fortunately, there are plenty of recipes with which the fruit can be used sensibly. Older apples, for example, are still well suited for smoothie recipes, as dried fruit, or you can use them to make apple cider vinegar yourself. We’ll introduce you to more delicious inspirations below.

Use apples with baking

Apple Crumble

An easy and classic recipe for baking is apple crumble.

You need:

  • 250 grams of flour
  • 125 grams of brown sugar
  • 1½ tsp baking powder
  • 125 grams of butter
  • 1 egg
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon (ground)
  • 75 grams of almonds (donated)
  • 750 grams of apples (e.g. Cox orange)
  • 50 grams of butter
  • 1 vanilla pod
  • 2 tbsp rose water
  • Fat for the shape

The recipe is that easy:

  1. Crumble the flour, sugar, baking powder, softened butter, egg and cinnamon first with the dough hook of the hand mixer, then with your hands to crumble into crumble.
  2. Toast the almond sticks in a pan without fat until golden brown.
  3. Peel, quarter and core apples and cut into not too thick wedges.
  4. Melt the butter and mix it with the scraped-out vanilla pulp and rose water. Mix with the apple wedges and almonds and place in a greased ovenproof dish. Spread the streusel evenly on top so that all the apples are covered.
  5. Bake the apple crumble in the preheated oven at 200 degrees, convection 180 degrees, gas mark 4 for about 25 minutes.

Apple bread

You don’t need a lot of ingredients for the apple bread and you still get a delicious bread!

ingredients:

  • 500 grams of apples (crumbly; e.g. “Elstar”)
  • 100 grams of apple cabbage (dark syrup)
  • 450 grams of spelled flour (type 1050)
  • 250 grams of rye flour
  • 1½ teaspoons of salt
  • 1 cube of yeast (42 g)
  • 150 grams of hazelnuts

preparation:

  1. For the apple bread, first peel, quarter and core the apples. Dice half of them. Puree the remaining apples, apple cabbage and 200 ml warm water.
  2. Mix both flours and salt, make a well in the middle and crumble the yeast into it. Add 5 tablespoons of warm water. Mix the yeast, water and a little flour into a thick pre-dough, cover and let rise for 10 minutes.
  3. Add the apple puree and knead everything into a smooth dough. Cover and let rise in a warm place until the dough has doubled in volume.
  4. Roughly chop the hazelnuts and knead briefly into the dough with the apple cubes. Place in a loaf tin (30 cm long) lined with baking paper and let the apple bread rise in a warm place for 15 to 20 minutes.
  5. Preheat the oven to 230 degrees, fan oven 210 degrees, gas level 5-6.
  6. Bake the bread on the lower rack in the oven for about 40 minutes. After 10 minutes of baking time, reduce the temperature to 200 degrees, convection 180 degrees, gas mark 4 and finish baking the apple bread.
  7. Let the bread cool for 10 minutes, then turn it out and let it cool completely.

Apple pie without sugar

It doesn’t always have to be household sugar when baking. The most delicious cakes can also be conjured up with the sweetness of the fruit – like this tasty apple cake without sugar!

ingredients:

  • 350 grams of apples
  • 100 grams butter (soft)
  • 2 eggs
  • 70 grams of dates
  • 50 milliliters of milk
  • 150 grams of flour
  • 2 teaspoons of baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • Fat for the shape

preparation:

  1. For the apple pie without sugar, first peel the apples, remove the core and cut into wedges or pieces.
  2. Beat the butter with a hand mixer and add the eggs one by one. Puree the dates in the milk and then stir into the butter and egg mixture.
  3. Mix the flour, baking powder and cinnamon together and fold into the mixture.
  4. Grease a springform pan (Ø 20 cm), pour in the batter evenly and spread the apple wedges on top. Bake the apple pie without sugar for about 35 to 40 minutes at 180 ° C top / bottom heat.

Hearty with apples

Apples with minced meat filling

The sweet fruit tastes great with hearty components, as this great recipe for apples with minced meat proves.

ingredients:

  • 4 apples (approx. 180 g each)
  • 4 stalks of sage
  • 1 onion
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 1 teaspoon oil
  • 300 grams of minced meat (mixed)
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp breadcrumbs
  • 1 tbsp capers (large)
  • 2 red onions
  • 1 teaspoon butter
  • 150 milliliters of meat broth
  • salt
  • Pepper (freshly ground)

Preparation:

  1. Rinse the apples and cut off a slice as a lid. Hollow out the apples.
  2. Cut the sage into strips. Peel and dice the onion and garlic.
  3. Lightly fry the onion, garlic and sage in the hot oil.
  4. Mix the minced meat with the egg, breadcrumbs, drained capers and the onion mixture. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Season the inside of the apples with salt and pepper and pour in the minced meat filling.
  6. Peel the red onions, cut eighths and sauté in the hot butter. Add the hollowed out apple meat (without the core). Season with salt and pepper and place in an ovenproof dish. Pour in the broth.
  7. Put the apples in without the apple lid and fry them in the preheated oven at 200 degrees, convection 180 degrees, gas mark 4 for about 30 minutes.
  8. Put the apple lid on and fry the apples for another 10 minutes. Season the stock with salt and pepper.

Kohlrabi and apple soup

The green kohlrabi and apple soup is vegan and super tasty!

You need this:

  • 750 grams of kohlrabi (with green)
  • 30 grams of ginger (fresh)
  • 1 chilli
  • 1½ tbsp curry powder
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil (native)
  • 2 tbsp quinoa (or quick-cooked millet)
  • 150 milliliters soy cuisine (“light”, soy cream)
  • 300 milliliters of vegetable broth
  • 275 milliliters apple juice (naturally cloudy)
  • 2 tbsp organic chia seeds
  • salt

Preparation:

  1. Cut the leaves from the kohlrabi. Separate leaves from stems and rinse. Cut 2 leaves into fine strips, coarsely chop the remaining leaves. Peel the kohlrabi and cut into sticks. Use a small knife to thinly scrape the skin off the ginger. Chop the ginger.
  2. Rinse the chilli, pat dry, cut in half, core and finely chop (work with kitchen gloves).
  3. Sauté the ginger, chilli and 1 tbsp curry in coconut oil over medium heat. Add the kohlrabi, coarsely chopped kohlrabi leaves, quinoa, soy cooking cream Cuisine Light and vegetable stock, bring to the boil and cook covered over a low heat for 20 minutes.
  4. Remove about 2 soup ladles from the insert from the soup. Pour the apple juice into the soup and bring to the boil briefly. Finely puree the soup with the hand blender and season with curry and salt. Add the filler again and serve the soup with kohlrabi green and chia seeds.

Use easy recipes for apples

The recipe for apple mustard is a great way to preserve apples! Can be stored in the jar for about a year, if opened it should be kept in the refrigerator.

Apple mustard

ingredients:

  • 2 apples (organic, 360 g)
  • 200 grams mustard seeds (yellow)
  • 6 tbsp brown sugar
  • 500 milliliters balsamic vinegar (white)
  • 2 teaspoons fennel pollen (see product information, or 2 teaspoons fennel seeds)
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 teaspoon salt

preparation:

  1. Rinse the apples, pat dry well, quarter them and remove the core. Roughly grate the apple quarters. Rinse the mustard seeds briefly in a colander.
  2. Simmer grated apple, mustard, brown sugar, vinegar, fennel pollen or seeds, bay leaves and salt in a saucepan over a low heat for about 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Immediately fill the finished mustard full to the brim while still boiling hot into clean jars that have been rinsed with hot water. Immediately close the jars tightly, place on the lid for about 5 minutes and allow to cool.

applesauce

Cooking applesauce is also a wonderful way to extend the shelf life of fruit – and it’s very easy!

You need this:

  • 2 kg of apples
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 250 ml apple juice
  • Lemon juice (some)
  • Cinnamon (to taste)

that’s how it works:

  1. Peel the apples and then cut them into eighths. Remove the core casing.
  2. Heat sugar in a saucepan until caramelized. Reduce the heat, add the apple wedges and mix everything well so that the sugar separates from the bottom. Pour in the apple juice and, with the lid closed, reduce the apples.
  3. As soon as the apples are soft-boiled, they are processed into puree with a hand blender or potato masher. If necessary, the puree can be liquefied with a little apple juice. Finally, the applesauce is refined with lemon juice, cinnamon and sugar.

Apple crisps

Apple chips are a delicious snack!

ingredients:

preparation:

  1. Bring the sugar to the boil with 150 ml of water and boil for 2 to 3 minutes.
  2. Rinse the apple, rub dry and slice lengthways (with core) on a vegetable slicer into thin slices.
  3. Put apple slices in the hot sugar solution and let stand for 2 minutes.
  4. Lift the apple slices out of the sugar solution with a slotted spoon and place on a baking sheet lined with baking paper.
  5. Let dry in a preheated oven at 120 degrees, fan-assisted 100 degrees, gas level 1 for about 1 hour.
  6. Immediately remove the apple chips from the baking paper and leave to cool on a wire rack, they will become crispy.

Tip: Depending on the method, drying apple rings takes longer, but is free from added sugar and also a good method to make the fruit more durable – and thus to enjoy longer!
