The Standing Vaccination Commission still recommends corona vaccinations only to risk patients among children and adolescents. The so-called booster vaccinations are also not yet recommended. Politicians now want to take the lead on both decisions.

According to a media report, the federal government and the health ministers of the federal states want to decide on vaccinations for children and adolescents from the age of twelve at the conference of health ministers on Monday. As the “Bild am Sonntag” reported, referring to a draft resolution for the conference, the vaccinations are planned to take place in vaccination centers, with general practitioners, pediatricians and company doctors.

As the newspaper also reported, the countries want to offer vaccinations to young adults in universities, vocational schools and schools. “This can significantly contribute to a safer start to teaching and learning after the summer vacation”, quoted the “Bild am Sonntag” from the draft.

According to the report, the paper also provides for booster vaccinations for risk groups, which should start in a few weeks. From September, older people, people in need of care and people with a weakened immune system are to be vaccinated a third time.

According to the newspaper, fully vaccinated people who were vaccinated with a vector virus vaccine should have the opportunity to be vaccinated the third time or the second time with the mRNA vaccine from Pfizer and Biontech. Mobile vaccination teams are to be used again for care facilities and old people’s homes.

900,000 young people have already been vaccinated

Most recently, leading SPD politicians spoke out in favor of more vaccinations against the corona virus for young people. “The infection itself may be harmless in most children and adolescents. But there is also a risk of long-covid with them,” said co-party chairman Saskia Esken of the editorial network Germany (RND).

The Standing Vaccination Commission (STIKO) does not recommend vaccination for 12 to 17 year olds in general, but only for risk groups. The European Medicines Agency EMA has already approved the vaccines from Biontech / Pfizer and Moderna for this age group. With the consent of their parents, children and adolescents can therefore already be vaccinated.

On Saturday, Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn tweeted that one in five young people in Germany between the ages of 12 and 17 had already received a first vaccination against the corona virus. That’s 900,000 young people.
