The letter is addressed to Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ) and City Councilor Ulli Sima (SPÖ). The citizens’ initiative points out that Vienna has lost almost 2000 hectares of green space in the past 20 years. The subject of food security is also addressed: “Please stop the building craze on Vienna’s highly fertile soils – whether in the Donaufeld, Rothneusiedl or Oberlaa,” the committee calls for. In contrast, there would be announcements that Vienna should become a model climate city. “Put your words into action,” said the committee. Highly fertile soils should be placed under protection. A request is made to ascertain whether living space could be created above parking lots or in a commercial area. A vacancy tax is also required.
