There has never been a “Billy Elliot” musical production in German before. Switzerland is now taking the first step.
“Billy Elliot” is coming to Switzerland! For the first time, the cult musical from Great Britain is being staged in German. Now it is also clear who was convincing in the castings: Moritz Fischli from Lucerne takes on the role of Billy Elliot.
Moritz Fischli is an exceptional talent worldwide.
For the 12-year-old, Billy Elliot is the first big role on the theater stage: “I didn’t go to any drama school. Actually, ballet is my great passion.”

Director Mitch Sebastian is convinced of Moritz Fischli: “He stands out because of his ballet technique. He is phenomenal and further ahead than his peers. He is an exceptional talent worldwide.” Michael, Billy’s best friend, is portrayed by Justin Périer. «Justin has a very natural acting character. “He is extravagant, has natural self-confidence and is very intelligent,” said the 58-year-old director about the young talent.
The dance teacher is played by Isabelle Flachsmann. The Swiss actress and singer is impressed by the talent of the two aspiring actors: “At 10 years old, I wasn’t as advanced as the boys I saw today. That’s incredible.”
Moritz Fischli and Justin Périer are the first cast as the main characters Billy and Michael. However, the main and supporting roles are each cast multiple times, as there are five to seven performances per week. The castings for the second and third cast have not yet been completed.
“Billy Elliot”: From the screen to the stage
In 2000, the British film “Billy Elliot” was released in cinemas. After the great success on the screen, the musical of the same name followed in 2005. Elton John came up with the idea for this live production and quickly composed 16 songs for the stage version. Three years later, “Billy Elliot – The Musical” was staged on Broadway in New York and won ten Tony Awards.
