To do this, customers could make appointments online with regional cleaning companies, cobblers or tailors and pay individual prices for this. Zalando is working with the British technology startup Save your Wardrobe.
Zalando has set itself the goal of anchoring the circular economy more firmly in fashion. By 2023, the company, which now has more than 40 million customers, wants to generate around a fifth of its gross goods volume (GMV) with more sustainable products. Last year it was more than 16 percent, which corresponds to a GMV of more than 1.7 billion euros.
Zalando recently acquired a stake in the Finnish startup Infinited Fiber, which produces a special biodegradable fiber from textile waste. Since September last year, Zalando customers have also been able to buy and sell second-hand fashion via the platform. The range there has since grown tenfold to 200,000 items, said Coppen. It is now available in 13 out of 23 European markets.
