Tesla Cybertruck and Rivian R1T currently lead the field of e-pickups. Now Toyota is hinting at the electric version of the Hilux. The first pictures seem coherent. Something is rolling towards us!
- Toyota and Lexus go on the electric offensive late but vehemently.
- There should be 30 new, all-electric models by 2030.
- 15 vehicle studies, including that of an e-pick-up, give a foretaste.
Both Tesla and Rivian are relatively new to the business compared to Japanese auto giant Toyota. But the Tesla Cybertruck and Rivian R1T are generating a lot of public interest. Toyota wants to counteract this.
The Japanese group presented 15 studies of new electric cars in one fell swoop. Fans of the brand recognize potential successors for Yaris Cross, C-HR and Aygo X in the fresh body lines. But it is the electric pick-up that catches our eye in particular. A possible successor to the well-known and successful Toyota Hilux.
The Hilux workhorse is often used as the basis for off-road mobile homes around the world. The study shows the car as a double cabin. At the time of market launch, the pick-up will probably also be available as a 1.5-cab and single-cab version.
Toyota does not provide technical data on the range, performance and price of the “E-Hilux”. The study doesn’t even have a name. Nevertheless, the concept seems coherent.
Netzwelt thinks
Toyota pioneered hybrid vehicles. When it comes to electric cars, the field was left to others for a long time. The company now seems to have recognized the signs of the times and is ringing in the electric age with power. In doing so, the group can not only build on long experience, but also on existing infrastructures. An electric all-wheel drive Hilux with a long range, all-wheel drive and a few gimmicks? It is sure to be a success.
