No clear trend – Tyrol choice: winners and losers on all sides

The Tyrolean municipal council and mayoral elections have been defeated and actually only allow one conclusion: There is no clear, general political trend apparent. The ÖVP, which governs at state level, can – despite some bitter disappointments – largely assert itself as the “mayor’s party” and the MFG, which is critical of vaccination and measures, is moving strongly into the local parliaments, but it was not an intoxicating result with participation in the runoff election.

The People’s Party probably has the Unterland town of Wörgl in particular on the plus side, where SPÖ incumbent Hedi Wechner was decimated and one candidate is the favorite in the runoff election. Mils near Imst is also a plus point – here you could get the mayor from NEOS. But at the same time there are also black slippers, as in the second largest city in the country, Kufstein, where one again remained under afar. Klaus Schimana also had no chance in Reutte. Runoff elections in 31 communities The fact that ÖVP Members of Parliament Stefan Weirather in Imst, Hans Lintner in Schwaz and Werner Hackl in Hall have to be in the runoff election is not unusual in view of the sometimes many challengers, but it should be painful. Overall, the mayoral race is still open in 31 municipalities. There will be a runoff there on Sunday, March 13.if(!apaResc)var apaResc=function(a)var e=window.addEventListener?”addEventListener”:”attachEvent”,t,n;(0,window[e])(“attachEvent”==e?”onmessage”:”message”,function(e)if(e.data[a]) for(var t=document.getElementsByClassName(a),n=0;n!=t.length;n++) t[n].style.height=e.data[a]+”px”,!1); apaResc(“apa-0290-22”); Platter community now “red” In principle, the larger cities remain a problem area for the People’s Party, even if the respective incumbents in Telfs, Kitzbühel and Landeck were brought across the finish line at the first attempt . The loss of the black mayor of all places in Günther Platter’s home town of Zams to the SPÖ is also painful, even though a red mayor had ruled there before. The People’s Party remained dominant across the country – which is probably why it is again close to the number of those attributable to it Mayor will come. Light and shadow also with SPÖ Also for the SPÖ it is a mixed balance. In addition to highlights such as in Schwaz, where a close candidate was brought into the runoff, Zams, Lienz (there Elisabeth Blanik won again at the first attempt, see the reaction in the video below) or Zirl, there were also disappointments such as in Wörgl and Kirchberg. Kufstein: Pinke in the runoff NEOS successes were not only recorded in the second largest city in Tyrol, Kufstein – where the pink candidate Birgit Obermüller is running in the runoff – but also in Telfs: In the market town, the party immediately achieved almost 20 percent of the votes the only pink mayor Markus Moser in Mils near Imst was only missing a few votes to win the election, and he had to cede the mayor’s chair to Bernhard Schöpf, who is close to the ÖVP, but clouded the election Sunday from a pink point of view joyful and a crying eye on the election results. Although the goal of 100 municipal councils was probably met, the Liberals had to record losses, especially in towns and communities with more than 5000 inhabitants and localities, in which the MFG ran as a candidate. Even in the former stronghold of Kufstein, there was no chance. In Reutte, however, one will move into the municipal council for the first time. No green mayor The Greens increased in many municipalities and were able to double the mandates in some cases. A green mayor (outside of Innsbruck) is still a long time coming. The green spotlight was on Fieberbrunn (Kitzbühel district), where the party immediately became the party with the most votes. A defeat for MFG mayoral candidates The MFG, which is critical of vaccination and measures, will move into most of the municipal offices for which the party drew up a list – specifically in 47 out of 50. They failed only in the three Schwaz communities of Eben am Achensee, Fügen and Mayrhofen. In Kufstein, the list became the third strongest force. The 22 MFG mayoral candidates were less successful on election Sunday. None of them achieved a majority or advanced to a runoff. Turnout was 66.33 percent, down from the 2016 municipal council and mayoral election (71.42 percent). The municipality of Fendels (district of Landeck) recorded the highest turnout at 95.65 percent.
