1st round in Paris – First French Open victory for Teichmann – Bencic also wins effortlessly – Sport

  • Jil Teichmann (WTA 24) beats Bernarda Pera (USA/WTA 116) in an hour 6:2 and 6:1.
  • Belinda Bencic (WTA 14) also only needs an hour in the 6-1, 6-1 win over Reka Lani (HUN/WTA 142).

Jil Teichmann has survived the starting round at the French Open for the first time. The Swiss number 2, who is one of the seeded players in Paris for the first time in a Grand Slam tournament, prevailed against the American Bernarda Pera (WTA 116) in an hour 6: 2, 6: 1.

Impressive victory

In the end, Teichmann was ahead in almost every relevant statistic. More winners (10:9) and only half as many unforced errors (17:34) speak for themselves. The game had already started with a break by the Seelander to make it 2-0, but Pera immediately managed the rebreak. As a result, Teichmann had her opponent completely under control and used 4 of 8 opportunities to break through in service. Conversely, she didn’t give Pera a chance to make a break herself.

After retiring due to injury at the last tournament before Roland Garros, Teichmann should be able to go into the second round relieved. There the 25-year-old meets the Serbian qualifier Olga Danilovic (WTA 172).

Bencic gives up one game less

Belinda Bencic mastered her opening hurdle no less confidently. The 25-year-old Olympic champion didn’t give Reka Jani, who was a lucky loser in the main tableau, the slightest chance and won 6:1 and 6:1 in 60 minutes.

It wasn’t until the score was 6-1 and 5-0 from Bencic’s perspective before Lani was able to serve through for the first time in the entire game. The Hungarian’s only game win up to that point was the direct rebreak to 1:1 in the starting set. In the last game, the Swiss had to fight a bit again and fend off 2 break chances before she used her first match ball to win after exactly one hour.

Opponent only known on Monday

In the 2nd round, Bencic meets the winner of Monday’s duel between Bianca Andreescu (WTA 72), the 2019 US Open winner, and Belgian Ysaline Bonaventure (WTA 168).
