Mustard, of course!

Francois LEFEBVRE

Among the houses where you can buy your supplies with your eyes closed, there is the Edmond Fallot Moutarderie, which has been making its little jars in Burgundy for 180 years. The factory is located in Beaune, but a shop sells all the brand's ranges in the heart of Dijon. His bestseller: Burgundy mustard, of course. But it also offers 25 flavored versions in its "mustard bar": blackcurrant, pinot noir, basil, walnuts, curry, Espelette pepper… There is something for everyone.

These small sweets are typical of the region. Originally, it was a praline, coated in a sugar glaze, then cut into the shape of a drop of water. With nougatine, blackcurrant or even coffee, it is available in several fine grocery stores in Dijon, including Mulot & Petitjean.

Cîteaux abbey, a divine paste

Along with époisses, it is one of the most famous cheeses of Côte-d'Or. Made in an abbey, south of Dijon, this tender paste resembles a reblochon, in addition to rustic. “Delicious with a Burgundy red wine,” suggests Yann Lavigne, head of the Porcheret-Lavigne cheese dairy, near Les Halles.

Crème de cassis, local refreshment

DR

This liqueur, obtained by macerating blackcurrant berries in alcohol, was created in Dijon in the 19th century. For more than a century, Briottet has been bottling its crème de cassis in the city center, distributed through wine merchants and delicatessens. To sip as an aperitif or in a cocktail.
Briottet, crème de cassis, € 20 for 70 cl.

Gingerbread revisited

DR

This delicacy comes to us from China. Marguerite de Bourgogne would have brought the recipe to the region, which has become one of its specialties, with a little twist: the use of wheat flour and green anise. For 225 years, Mulot & Petitjean has been making cakes respecting this tradition. Another variation to try: the nonnette, a gingerbread puck filled with orange jam, but also apricots or raspberries.
Mulot & Petitjean, plain gingerbread € 7.30 for 470 g.
