a big surprise announcement soon? It smells good

A new rumor, potentially more credible than the others, claims that God of War Ragnarok will make a big reveal before the end of the year.

God of War Ragnarok is the sequel to the famous reboot, marking a turning point for the cult franchise. Since 2018, we have left Greek mythology to find ourselves in the heart of the Nordic pantheon. The new adventures of Kratos, accompanied by his son Atreus, concluded brilliantly and we are impatiently awaiting the sequel. But before it arrives, it could well be that this new opus offers us new content. We will even have the images shortly.

A DLC for God of War Ragnarok?

Without going into detail, the ending of the game is rather open and has been the subject of a large number of theories. Even today, some players remain convinced that we will see the god of war again in the months to come. Obviously, the Spanish site Areajugones, known for some solid information, agrees with them, and he even has some juicy information to reveal to us: his sources close to Sony speak of a DLC which would be in development for God of War Ragnarok. Given the reputation of the site, many fans believe in it, and the excitement is at its peak.

The site makes no mention of the content of this famous mystery DLC. However, it would potentially be revealed before the end of the year. The extension would thus make its debut during the Game Awards 2023 ceremony. It is an ideal meeting place for such an announcement, and this is what Horizon Forbidden West did with Burning Shores. But that’s not all. Indeed, it would not be a DLC strictly speaking, but rather a standalone like Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. The content would then promise to be massive.

Even though this news is mouth-watering, it should be taken with a grain of salt. Yet we want to believe it. Last August, we already learned of a potential leak concerning the expansion for God of War Ragnarok. According to the “insider” The Snitch, the project is 60% of its development, and it should be released next year. The insider would have obtained this “scoop” from the same source which allowed him to reveal more information on the exclusive PS5 Rise of the Ronin.

A new game in the works?

In addition to this DLC, which we are still awaiting confirmation of, a new God of War title seems to be in preparation. Once again, nothing has been made official by the studio, but clues have been spotted here and there. The latest one showed SIE Santa Monica looking for different profiles for positions in Combat Design. To be hired, there was a condition, and she put the word in the community’s ear. The candidates « must know GOW (2018) and GOW Ragnarok ” And “be able to talk in detail about combat systems, mechanics and enemies”.

If it is indeed a sequel, we should not count on a return of the Nordic arc. The saga will sail towards new horizons, as Cory Barlog, the director of the first episode of the reboot, explained a long time ago:

There are several reasons: one of the most important is that the first Nordic God of War took us 5 years to develop. I don’t know how long the second one will take – I’m hesitant, I think it will be roughly the same thing – and if we imagine having to do a third in the same time, we arrive at a cycle fifteen years to tell one and the same story. I think it’s far too long a period.
