Final Fantasy is having a good time with FF7 Rebirth. But the latest opus of the license hides many secrets, including an astonishing anecdote revealed by Tetsuya Nomura.

Final Fantasy 7 is at its peak with the second part of the remake! Released last February on PS5, FF7 Rebirth wows us with its sublime artistic direction, opening wide the doors of Midgar where the previous opus was enclosed.

Pivotal episode in this new FF7 trilogy, Rebirth should not miss the boat. And it seems to satisfy fans, despite a few bugs that the developers are working to correct quickly. But Square Enix’s game could have been a little different… Indeed, another production disrupted the initial plans. So we had to adapt along the way.

This detail changed along the way in FF7 Rebirth

The Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Ultimania book is finally available and it has a lot to teach us about the latest opus in the franchise. In particular, a detail that had to be changed during production because of the release of… Crisis Core, released on consoles and PC at the end of 2022.

The remake of this PSP classic bridges the gap between the first two opuses of the FF7 revival. Following Zack in his own quest, he fills in elements of scenarios while thickening the writing of well-known characters, like the much-loved Aerith.

However, this rereading includes an element which led Tetsuya Nomura to rethink Rebirth on one aspect: its title. In fact, the creative director wanted the second part of the FF7 remake to be titled “Reunion”, emphasizing the reunion rather than the rebirth, as is the case with the current title. However, Crisis Core itself has the subtitle “Final Fantasy VII Reunion”.

Given the importance creators place on names, this choice was a heartache for Nomura. For the rest, this does not give any clue about the third and final part FF7 remakes. However, we can already expect that it will not be called Final Fantasy 7 Reunion.
