“A concentrate of intelligence and humor”: rated 3.8 out of 5, it is Quentin Dupieux’s best film

“Daaaaaali!”, his twelfth feature film (in seventeen years) was released in theaters this Wednesday, February 7. But do you know what Quentin Dupieux’s best film is according to AlloCiné spectators?

After a handful of clips and the short film Nonfilm, the electro artist Mr. Oizo once again became Quentin Dupieux when he moved to the feature with Steak, released in June 2007 in our theaters. Seventeen years later, his twelfth opus has just arrived in our theaters (and the thirteenth is being filmed), which makes him one of our most prolific directors.

Visible since February 7, Daaaaaali! is even his seventh feature film to be released in just under six years. And the best rated by AlloCiné spectators is precisely in this lot. Because, while waiting to see how far his film on the famous painter (played by several actors, including Edouard Baer, Jonathan Cohen and Pio Marmaï) will go, it is about Yannick.

Which, with its 463,851 admissions, is also its biggest success in France (ahead of Incredible but true then Steak), which perhaps explains this. Just like the fact that he tells a story, certainly absurd, but more down-to-earth (therefore accessible to the general public) than usual.

It is about a spectator (the Yannick of the title, played by Raphaël Quenard) who, not very enthusiastic about the very bad play he is attending, decides to interrupt the performance and take matters into his own hands. Pio Marmaï, Blanche Gardin, Sébastien Chassagne and Agnès Hurstel are also in the cast of this closed session in the running for two Césars, which questions the sometimes complex relationships between artists and public.

With an average of 3.8 out of 5, obtained from 5,128 ratings, it is therefore the best Quentin Dupieux film on AlloCiné. And 67 of the 517 reviews posted on the site give it 5 stars, and 222 range between 4 and 4.5.

Short, incisive, enjoyable, Yannick exudes humor and neurons

“Don’t miss this gem, a real cinematic proposition, a real original idea… A film that cleans your head instead of polluting it”enthuses Laurence L.When Hugo G.packed by “simply exceptional actors and dialogue” states that it is the “best film” of its author.

thechombfor his part, came for the casting, and stayed for what goes with it: “Dupieux + Quenard + Gardin + Marmaï were already four good reasons to go see this film, which exceeds all my expectations. A concentration of intelligence, humor, fine dialogue but also emotion, full of ideas sometimes serious but wrapped in impertinence and Dupieux madness. Short, incisive, enjoyable, Yannick exudes humor and neurons.”

It’s surprising, it’s funny, it’s good, it’s beautiful, it’s DUPIOUS

Funnyness and intelligence which are two of the frequent qualities of Quentin Dupieux, even if the latter was more divisive before the release of Yannick. Which nonetheless remains a pure film by its author, as underlined Thibault Geyer : “It’s surprising, it’s funny, it’s good, it’s beautiful, it’s DUPIOUS.”

And this makes a nice conclusion about this Yannick, often described as a UFO by several won over Internet users, while others highlight his way of speaking to us and making us think. Much more absurd (and this is normal given the subject), Daaaaaali! Will it reach the same heights, on AlloCiné and at the box office? Response in the coming weeks.
