A week before Makenzie’s death, during a conversation in which the couple tried to explain themselves, the father reportedly told his wife: ‘I can’t believe I just lost the last thing. most important in my life. “You know, that’s not really the case. She should be,” Holly Farrington reportedly replied, referring to their daughter. “You really don’t know me well, do you?” the defendant reportedly concluded. In 2018, several months after the crime, Jeremy Main told the judge he did not believe his marriage was “irretrievably broken”. The judge ruled otherwise and granted the divorce petition to Holly Farrington.
“A Big Mistake”
After the murder, Jeremy Main went to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office and confessed to killing his daughter and failing to kill himself. He later admitted to investigators “making a big mistake” and “ruining” his life. Justice added four aggravating factors to this crime committed against a person under the age of twelve who was under his authority, considering that it was particularly heinous, atrocious and that it had been premeditated and calculated. The prosecutor’s office has announced that it will seek the death penalty against him, which is why the selection of jurors will be done without citizens morally opposed to this capital sentence.
