Recovered, vaccinated, boosted and still rejected. Because the CovPass app does not display an important value, there are regular problems at the entrance control in restaurants, indoor pools or cinemas. Here we tell you what the CovPass app urgently needs to change.
Anyone who has experienced a corona infection and has been vaccinated twice is considered boosted under the current 2G-plus rules – actually.
Because the CovPass app does not mark the digital vaccination certificate of the booster vaccination separately, the group of people who have recovered is currently facing a real problem at admission controls:
While the value “Vaccination 3 of 3” is displayed in the CovPass app for those who have been vaccinated three times, only “Vaccination 2 of 2” is displayed for those who have recovered plus those who have been vaccinated twice.
Because there is no indication of the recovered status or the booster vaccination that has taken place, this often means that those affected have to discuss them regularly during controls or are even turned away.
CovPass app: those who have recovered are forgotten
But who is to blame for this? The EU vaccination certificate clearly distinguishes the booster vaccination for those who have recovered with “2 out of 2 (booster vaccination)”.
However, as soon as they scan the printed QR code with the CovPass app in order to carry the vaccination certificate with them at all times in digital form, this important information is simply not transferred.
Particularly critical: Even with the option hidden in the CovPass app to create an EU printout as a PDF from the stored QR code, the booster vaccination is no longer mentioned.
What can those affected do?
In order for those who have recovered to be able to show their booster vaccination just as easily as everyone else, the developers of the CovPass app have to make improvements. It is not known how long this will take.
Until then, those affected must take other measures: It is essential to carry the proof of recovery digitally or as a printout in addition to the vaccination certificate.
Alternatively, we recommend buying a so-called immune card, which is available in many pharmacies. However, you should definitely ask to print the booster label of your EU certificate (the document with the QR code printed on it) on the card.
Is the Corona warning app the better alternative?
Whether 3G, 2G or 2G plus: the official Corona warning app of the federal government shows users your personal proof of status in the recently updated version 2.16.
In this way, admission controls could be accelerated somewhat in the future, because a simple glance is enough to see the vaccination status of the user. Of course, the prerequisite here is that those who have recovered have deposited their recovery certificate in the app.
The Corona-Warn-App does not solve the current problem either. If the 2G-plus rule applies in restaurants, cinemas or indoor swimming pools, people who have been vaccinated or have recovered with a booster vaccination do not actually have to submit a test at the moment.
This special case is currently not taken into account by the Corona-Warn-App. After all, the project team has already announced that the app will include certificates from booster vaccinations accordingly in the future.
