A man shot dead in Fort-de-France, a second seriously injured


A 27-year-old man was shot dead Monday evening in the city center of Fort-de-France, less than 50 meters from the Town Hall and the Courthouse, AFP learned on Tuesday January 25. from judicial sources.

The victim was in cardiorespiratory arrest when firefighters arrived. Another individual, hit by a bullet in the head, was transferred to the Martinique University Hospital in serious condition, according to firefighters.

A “settlement of accounts”

The facts occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Boulevard du General de Gaulle, the main axis of the city center. The two victims were traveling in a small white car when they were shot at, said the judicial source. “We are on something akin to a settling of scores even if the investigations are in progress“, reacted to AFP Steeve Moreau, deputy mayor of Fort-de-France in charge of security.
