It’s a near miss tragedy. While a woman in her thirties is taken into custody, she only remembers the day after her arrest, having forgotten her 14-month-old baby, alone at home.
It’s a spine-chilling story. On the night of Wednesday September 21 to Thursday September 22, a 30-year-old woman was arrested by the police after damaging a vehicle. Placed in police custody, she is put in a drunk tank, having been arrested under the influence of alcohol. But then the day after her arrest, the woman suddenly remembers having left her 14-month-old child alone at home. The police then go urgently to the home of the one they arrested, accompanied by a team of doctors.
And indeed, a 14-month-old baby was found in his crib. Dehydrated and hypoglycemic, the child was taken to hospital. Fortunately, his days are no longer in danger. The baby will be entrusted to social services as soon as he leaves the health establishment. On her mother’s side, she is already being prosecuted for degradation but also for neglect of a minor. A scary story that could have ended very badly. This news item unfortunately echoes other totally sordid stories, such as the one that took place in Montreuil on August 14th. A woman alerts the police explaining that she found a three-month-old infant in the back of a vehicle, alone. She immediately took the baby to the hospital. If the police went in search of the parents, the latter went by themselves to the police station the next day.
Placed in police custody, the two parents confessed to having left their child but did not explain the reason for this gesture. “He asked where his car was. Then he left the police station, before returning a few minutes later telling the official that he had also forgotten to mention that his son was inside the self”had specified a source close to the investigation to our colleagues from Parisian. As for the baby, he was taken from his parents and placed in child welfare. If this child was able to be saved in time by a passerby, this was unfortunately not the case for a child, forgotten in his father’s car on June 20, 2022 in Saint-Nazaire in Loire-Atlantique.

The child was forgotten in the vehicle of the adult, who had left for work. It was the nursery that alerted the police, noting the absence of the child. But the baby was already dead. “I was warned last night by Assatois but also by the Assat crèche because a child had died in the afternoon”, explained the mayor. If these tragic events take place alongside the parents, others take place within the very confines of a crèche. Indeed, on Wednesday June 22, an 11-month-old baby died after ingesting a toxic product. After the opening of an investigation, it was a childcare assistant who admitted to having made the child drink a caustic liquid.
The nursery closed
Faced with such a tragedy, the Rhône prefecture decided on July 2 to close the establishment. The administrative closure order has been signed “for a period of three months renewable once”, she said in a press release stating that “During this period, an administrative inquiry will be carried out by the Métropole de Lyon in order to verify that the operating conditions of the establishment comply with the legislative and regulatory provisions and guarantee respect for the health, physical or mental, or the education of the foster children”.
Nursery worker charged
The crèche employee, who would have been alone at the time of the tragedy, was indicted for “intentional homicide”. “Exceeded by the crying of the child, she sprinkled it, then made him ingest a caustic product”, Destop for WC. “She collapsed in police custody, she deeply regrets this gesture.
