AMD seems to be struggling to simultaneously serve its two generations of platforms for processors.

At the launch of its new AM5 platform, AMD was clear: “ there is no question of abandoning the AM4 “. No giving up – CPUs and motherboards are still on sale – but will we see any new releases?

AM4 production continues…

The question torments a large number of users who are all the more hesitant to switch to the AM5 platform as it entails significant additional costs related to the chipset as well as the memory, DDR5 requires.

Thus, for weeks, there had been talk of rumors even evoking the arrival of AM4 processors on Zen 4 architecture. Rumors not taken seriously: it was hard to see AMD shooting itself in the foot while the American company has all the pains of the world to impose an AM5 platform which must lead it at least until 2025-2026.

The whole question is therefore how this support for the AM4 platform can manifest itself at AMD. A new rumor supports a slightly older one which mentioned the release of a new X3D CPU.

… but from there to imagine a new CPU?

Today, this hallway noise is getting a bit thicker even if AMD is careful not to confirm anything. Our colleagues from Videocardz are relaying a leak from very uncertain sources.

Indeed, alongside the well-known Ryzen 7 5800X3D, a hypothetical Ryzen 5 5600X3D has surfaced. This would respond to the product name 100-00001176 and would logically integrate 6 cores/12 threads. A 1 MB L2 cache would be present, three times less than on the big brother. On the other hand, thanks to 3D V-Cache technology, it would have – like the 5800X3D – a 96 MB L3 cache. That’s the whole point of these X3Ds.

The leak also mentions a base frequency of 3.3 GHz for a boost reaching 4.4 GHz, each time 100 MHz less than the 5800X3D. There remains the question of the relevance of such a processor when, precisely, the 5800X3D sees its price drop “dangerously”: at less than 300 euros, it already competes with the most recent Ryzen 7000. It is difficult to imagine AMD offering a chip even less expensive.
