A Parisian surgeon would have auctioned the radio of a patient wounded by a bullet at the Bataclan

According to Mediapart, the surgeon of the AP-HP Emmanuel Masmejean would have auctioned for 2700 dollars the radio of a survivor of the Bataclan on which we see a Kalashnikov bullet. The doctor would have acknowledged the facts

He says he acted in a “pedagogical” vocation and to “interest people”. According to Mediapart, the Parisian surgeon Emmanuel Masmejean would have auctioned on the internet the x-ray of one of his patients, survivor of the Bataclan attack of 2015. Starting price: 2777 dollars.

“The work”, of which Emmanuel Masmejean would claim paternity and rights, was still present on the Opensea site on Saturday afternoon. The X-ray represents a human limb in which a Kalashnikov bullet lodged along a bone. Its description is unequivocal: “Bataclan terrorist attack – November 13, 2015 – Paris, France”

The author of the announcement, “Emmanuel Masmejean” specifies that of the “129 (sic) dead and more than 300 injured in the attacks of November 13, 2015 in Paris, 41 patients were referred to the Georges-Pompidou European Hospital in Assistance Publique-Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP).”

personal details

But he also gives other details to potential buyers of the photo: “Among (the) patients, I personally operated on five women, including this case. This young patient, who lost her boyfriend in this attack, had an open fracture of the left forearm with a Kalashnikov bullet remaining in the soft tissues”.

Emmanuel Masmejean is a renowned orthopedic surgeon, who works at the European Georges-Pompidou Hospital of the Assistance Publique-Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP) and was actually on duty to receive patients during the Paris attacks of November 2015.

Contacted by Médiapart, the surgeon would have first burst out laughing on the phone before acknowledging the facts, which he describes as “bullshit”. According to the online media, Emmanuel Masmejean would not have requested authorization from the AP-HP to publish this X-ray, nor the authorization of the patient on whom it was performed.

The sale price listed on the online ad was reportedly withdrawn within minutes of the call.

“Indecent” according to the AP-HP

In an email sent to Médiapart, the AP-HP denounces a “particularly problematic, shocking and indecent” publication, an “action contrary to the code of ethics”. The institution specifies that it will seize the order of doctors and summon the surgeon in order to consider possible prosecution.
